SUEK, EuroChem to build dry bulk terminal in Ust–Luga by 2024

MOSCOW, Mar 29 (PRIME) -- Russian fertilizer producer EuroChem and Siberian Coal Energy Company (SUEK) plan to finish construction of a 7 million tonne dry bulk terminal in the port of Ust-Luga until 2024, Denis Ilatovsky, CEO of SUEK’s unit National Transportation Company, said late on March 26 at a meeting of the Federal Agency for Sea and Inland Water Transport.

“We have about 60 million tonnes of capacities, and we plan to reach 90 million tonnes until 2025. … In September, we approved the start of the EuroChem Ust-Luga project at a meeting of the board of directors, and we plan to finish the terminal with capacities of 7 million tonnes until 2024,” he said.

Russia currently has no terminals for handling of liquid fertilizers, this is why the company also wants to build a similar terminal in Ust-Luga. The company will redirect transshipment of all bulk cargoes from the Estonian port of Sillamae to its new terminal after it finishes construction, but will continue transshipping liquid fertilizers in the Estonian port at least until 2025, he said.
